How Much Does a Mobile Hairdresser Cost in Melbourne?

Most mobile hairdresser prices in Melbourne sit between $150 and $180 per person for hair styling, and between $280 and $350 for hair and makeup together. Travel is charged on top, and early starts or larger groups change the total. Where your price lands in that range depends on the look you want, the artist you book and where you are getting ready.
Here is what goes into the cost of a mobile hairdresser, so you know what to expect before you ask for a quote.
Typical prices for mobile hair and makeup in Melbourne
These are our current prices per person, before travel. The range in each line comes from the level of artist you book.
| Service | Price per person |
|---|---|
| Hair down (blow waves, curls or waves worn down) | $150 to $180 |
| Hair up (updos and buns) | $160 to $180 |
| Makeup | $160 to $180 |
| Hair down and makeup | $280 to $350 |
| Hair up and makeup | $300 to $350 |
Individual false lashes are a small add-on to any makeup booking.
Hair only, or hair and makeup?
Booking hair on its own suits an event where you are happy doing your own makeup, or when you only want a fresh blow wave before a dinner or a photoshoot. Our mobile hair stylist service covers everything from blow waves and soft curls to sleek updos.
Booking both together costs less than booking them separately, usually $10 to $30 less per person depending on the artist level. Your hair and makeup are also planned as one look, so the finish of your skin, the colour of your lips and the shape of your hair suit each other and your outfit.
What changes the price
The artist level. Hair is priced at artist, senior artist and lead artist level, and makeup at artist, senior artist and makeup specialist level. The more experienced the artist, the higher the price, which is where the ranges in the table come from.
Hair up or hair down. At most levels, hair up costs a little more than hair down. Pinning and securing an updo so it holds all day takes longer than finishing a blow wave or curls.
Extras. Individual false lashes are added on the day if you want them. They give soft definition that looks like your own lashes.
The number of people. Each person is priced individually, so a group of three pays for three appointments. Larger groups are quoted differently, as covered below.
Travel fees
A mobile hairdresser's cost includes getting to you. Our team is based in Melbourne's CBD, and travel fees start from $50, depending on how far we travel to your home, hotel or venue. Bookings outside the CBD carry additional travel costs.
Travel is worked out from the distance and the number of artists who need to come. Add your full address to your enquiry and we will confirm the travel fee in your quote, so there are no surprises later.
Early and late appointments
Wedding and event mornings often start early, especially when the photographer arrives before the ceremony. An early bird call-out fee applies to appointments that start before 7am, and the same fee applies after 7pm. It is charged per artist.
Tell us the time you need to be ready by when you enquire, and we will work back from there to set a start time. If your schedule has some give, a start from 7am avoids the fee altogether.
Group and bridal party bookings
For groups of up to four, each person is priced from the table above. Groups of more than four people are quoted individually, because a larger group usually needs more than one artist to have everyone ready on time.
For wedding hair and makeup, the quote covers the bride, bridesmaids, flower girls, mothers of the bride and groom, and anyone else getting ready with you. It lists who needs hair, makeup or both, and how many artists we will send to keep the morning on schedule.
What's included in your quote
Your quote lists each person, the service they are booking and the artist level, along with travel and any early bird fee. The price covers your artist coming to you with a full professional kit, setting up in your space and creating your look from start to finish.
To confirm the booking, you pay a deposit, and the balance is due 48 hours before your appointment. We accept Afterpay, EFT, Amex and credit card. If you choose a buy now pay later option, Moneysmart recommends checking every repayment fits your budget, as late fees apply when a payment is missed.
For weddings and large bookings over $500, the deposit is non-refundable, as set out in our terms of service. Pay it once your date and numbers are settled.
Is a mobile hairdresser worth the cost?
At home hairdresser prices include the artist's travel and setup time, which a salon booking does not. In return, you skip the drive, the parking and the wait in a salon chair. You get ready in your own space, and your whole group gets ready together instead of travelling to separate appointments. On a wedding morning, that means less rushing and more time with the people around you.
That convenience is one of the main reasons mobile hairdressers are a great idea, especially when a group is getting ready together. Preparing for your mobile hair and makeup appointment takes only a few minutes the night before, and it keeps the morning running to time.
